Our Work & Impact

This initiative is more than tree planting — it’s about restoring ecological balance, reviving local biodiversity, and empowering rural voices to be part of global climate solutions. Through every seed ball, Agragami is sowing not just a plant, but hope for a greener, healthier future.

How We Work

Learn the process we use at Agargami

Community-Led Planning

Every project starts with participatory surveys, mapping true needs and indigenous wisdom before a single rupee is spent.

Inclusive Implementation

Agragami trains local youth, women, and farmers to become change agents, ensuring skills and ownership stay within the village.

Monitoring & Learning

Regular field visits, feedback loops, and data dashboards let us tweak activities in real time and keep impact sustainable.

Partners & Collaborators

We co-create change with village assemblies (Gram Sabhas), local self-help groups, district administrations, and sector experts. Collaboration is the multiplier that turns good ideas into large-scale, lasting impact.

Seed Ball Movement

Greening Rural Chhattisgarh

About the project

Agragami Social Welfare Society, a grassroots organization working for sustainable rural development in Chhattisgarh, has initiated a community-led environmental campaign — “Seed Ball Movement” — to combat deforestation, revive degraded landscapes, and sensitise communities on climate action.

Amidst rising concerns over global warming, loss of biodiversity, and erratic rainfall patterns, it has become critical to reconnect people — especially rural youth and children — with nature-based solutions. The Seed Ball Movement is a low-cost, high-impact initiative aimed at reviving green cover while instilling ecological values in communities.

What is a Seed Ball?

A seed ball is a mixture of local plant seeds, cow dung, clay, and compost, hand-rolled by community members, especially children and women. These balls are thrown in barren or deforested areas just before the monsoon, where rain and soil moisture help the seeds germinate naturally. It’s a regenerative practice that requires no digging, no watering, and no tools.

Our Impact So Far

  • 10,000 seed balls distributed and sown
  • 60 villages covered across Mahasamund, Baloda Bazar, and Raipur districts
  • Over 1,500 people engaged, including school children, youth clubs, and self-help groups
  • Community workshops conducted to create awareness on climate change, soil health, and native species
  • Promoted the idea of “One Seed Ball = One Future Tree” to build ownership

Cloth to Canopy

Turning Discarded Fabric into Forests of the Future

About the project

Agragami Social Welfare Society, Chhattisgarh, has always worked at the intersection of compassion, community empowerment, and environmental sustainability. With the rising threats of global warming, deforestation, and mounting urban waste, Agragami launched a grassroots campaign titled “Cloth to Canopy”, blending environmental consciousness with social support.

This unique initiative addresses two critical challenges simultaneously — urban textile waste and rural ecological degradation. The core concept is simple yet impactful: “You donate cloth, we grow your tree.” Every piece of cloth donated by urban citizens is either reused by underprivileged rural families or upcycled into tools for afforestation, particularly through our Seed Ball Plantation Movement.

Dual Impact: Greening Land, Supporting Lives

Agragami Social Welfare Society, Chhattisgarh, has always worked at the intersection of compassion, community empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Environmental Action through Seed Balls

A key component of the campaign is our Seed Ball Movement, wherein seed balls made from native seeds, cow dung, clay, and compost are prepared and planted in barren lands. With the help of SHG members, village youth, and schoolchildren, over 10,000 seed balls have been sown in 60 villages across Chhattisgarh, especially during the monsoon season to ensure higher germination rates.

The result is not just the regreening of degraded lands, but also a deep awareness-building process. Through this movement, we educate communities on climate change, biodiversity, water conservation, and sustainable living. Every act — from donating a shirt to planting a seed ball — contributes to reversing environmental damage.

Why It Matters

  • Reusing 1 kg of cloth saves up to 10,000 liters of water.
  • Reduces carbon emissions and landfill burden.
  • Promotes circular economy and ecological restoration.
  • Builds emotional connection between urban donors and rural caretakers.

What sets “Cloth to Canopy” apart is that it is self-sustained, volunteer-driven, and emotionally powerful. No corporate or institutional funding fuels this movement — it thrives on people’s goodwill, empathy, and shared responsibility.

Save Pond, Save Life

A Community-Led Campaign for Pond Revival and Water Conservation

About the project

Water is the essence of life, and in rural India, ponds are its lifelines. For centuries, ponds have sustained farming, livestock, biodiversity, and daily human needs in villages. Yet today, many of these age-old water bodies lie neglected — dried, encroached, or filled with waste. Recognizing the deep cultural, ecological, and economic value of ponds, Agragami Social Welfare Society has launched the campaign: “Save Pond, Save Life.”

This grassroots initiative is focused on reviving traditional ponds through voluntary community action, public awareness, and sustainable water management. It is a call to restore not just water bodies, but also the soul of rural life

Our Campaign: Save Pond, Save Life

Through this campaign, Agragami mobilizes village communities, youth, women’s groups, and volunteers to:

  • Identify and map old/dying ponds in the region
  • Organize shramdaan (voluntary labor) for pond cleaning, desilting, and boundary protection
  • Raise awareness through wall paintings, folk events, and school drives
  • Promote water literacy — helping people understand the role of ponds in fighting drought and climate change
  • Advocate for government convergence under MGNREGA and Jal Shakti Abhiyan

Already, several villages in Chhattisgarh have begun restoring ponds with community participation, reviving not just water storage but also community pride and ownership.

Our Approach

  • 100% community-led and voluntary
  • Emphasis on traditional wisdom and local solutions
  • Use of native plants on pond banks to prevent erosion
  • Youth involvement in monitoring and protection
  • Seasonal planning around monsoon for better water capture

Environmental & Social Impact

  • Restored ponds improve water availability for 6–9 months in a year
  • Boosts agriculture and livestock productivity
  • Encourages climate resilience in drought-prone areas
  • Enhances biodiversity and soil health
  • Reduces dependence on borewells and deep groundwater

We urge individuals, institutions, and panchayats to:

✔ Volunteer for pond revival in your village
✔ Sponsor desilting tools or awareness campaigns
✔ Mobilize your school, SHG, or youth group
✔ Adopt a pond — and bring it back to life

Let us come together to protect what has always protected us.
Because when we save a pond, we save a way of life.
